Capt. Simon Sartwell Simon, 1st Regiment N.H. Continental Line
Simon Sartwell, Jr. was born June 24, 1749 in Charlestown, New Hampshire. He was the son of Simon Sartwell Sr. and Hannah Sartwell.
He was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the 4th Continental Infantry Regiment on January 1, 1776. He was transferred to the 1st New Hampshire Regiment, Continental Line and commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant on November 8, 1776. On September 20, 1777 he was promoted to Captain-Lieutenant. At the Continental Army’s encampment at Valley Forge, Simon Sartwell, Jr. is listed as a Captain-Lieutenant in Captain Nathaniel Hutchinson’s Company of the 1st New Hampshire Regiment, Continental Line under the command of Colonel Joseph Cilley. He is further marked as “Present” for January 1778, “Sick/Absent” for February-March 1778, “Present” for April 1778, “Sick/Absent” for May 1778, and again “Present” for June 1778. He was commissioned as a Captain in the 1st New Hampshire on March 24, 1780 and served until he was rendered supernumerary and discharged on May 11, 1781.
He died May 30, 1797 and is buried in Plot G60, Forest Hill Cemetery, located in Charlestown, New Hampshire.
