For those interested in those attractions, please consider making your own Thursday evening accommodations in the Fishkill, NY area.
Friday, April 5, 2024:Morning Tour of Mount Gulian Historic Site (OPTIONAL)
145 Sterling St, Beacon, NY 12508
The Society of the Cincinnati was organized on May 13, 1783, at Mount Gulian by Continental officers who fought in the American Revolution, including patriot General Friedrich Von Steuben, whose headquarters was located at Mount Gulian from 1782 – 1783.
Early Afternoon Tour of New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site (OPTIONAL)
374 Temple Hill Road, New Windsor, NY 12553
The New Windsor Cantonment commemorates the Continental Army’s final encampment during the Winter of 1782/83 and explores the day-to-day lives of the soldiers who built and lived in this virtual city.
The Cantonment is also the site of The Newburgh Conspiracy, a failed threat by leaders of the Continental Army in March 1783, arising from frustration with Congress’s long-standing inability to meet its financial obligations to the military. General Washington defused the situation with an eloquent, personal plea to his officers to remain loyal to Congress.
