Lt. Nathan Weare, 1st Regiment N.H. Continental Line
Nathan Weare was born in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire in 1747. He was the son of Meshech and Mehitable (Wainwright) Weare. His father, Meshech Weare, was to become the President of the New Hampshire Council and Committee of Safety, and eventually the first President (Governor) of New Hampshire. He was also the younger brother of Captain Richard Weare.
Nathan Weare enlisted as a Sergeant in his brother’s company of the 3rd New Hampshire Regiment, Continental Line on April 8, 1777. His brother, Captain Richard Weare, died of his wounds sustained at the Battle of Fort Anne, on August 2, 1777. As such, Lieutenant Daniel Livermore, was promoted to command of the company and Nathan was commissioned as an Ensign in the Company on August 4, 1777. On July 5, 1780, Ensign Weare was promoted to Lieutenant. When the New Hampshire Line was reorganized and consolidated into two Regiments, Lieutenant Weare was transferred to the 1st New Hampshire Regiment, Continental Line on January 1, 1781. Lieutenant Weare served until March of 1782.
Lieutenant Nathan Weare died in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire in 1798.
