Joseph Boynton

1st Lt. Joseph Boynton, 2nd Regiment, N.H. Continental Line – Original Member

Joseph Boynton was born January 17, 1755 in Stratham, New Hampshire. He first enlisted in Stratham County and was at Cambridge, Massachusetts in April, 1775. He then enlisted on May 30, 1775 in Gilman’s Company in the 2nd New Hampshire, Continental Line. He was commissioned as an Ensign in 3rd New Hampshire Regiment on Nov 8, 1776. He was promoted to Lieutenant on Oct 7, 1777 and Adjutant on January 15, 1778 while the Regiment was encamped at Valley Forge. He was transferred to 2nd New Hampshire in January of 1780 and served until end of war.

After the war he married Rebecca Thurston and removed to Maine. He died June 24, 1830 in Cornish, Maine.
