John Adams

Lt. John Adams, 1st Regiment, N.H. Continental Line – Original Member

John Adams was born in 1758 in Stratham, New Hampshire. He was the son of Joseph and Mary (Greenleaf) Adams. He was commissioned as an Ensign in 2nd New Hampshire, Continental Line on March 8, 1781. On October 6, 1781 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st New Hampshire Regiment, Continental Line. He was retained in the 16th Massachusetts Regiment (also known as Henry Jackson’s Additional Continental Regiment) in November of 1783 when the New Hampshire line was heavily demobilizing. He served in this regiment until June 20, 1784.

After the Revolution he became one of the original 30 members of the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of New Hampshire on February 5, 1784.

He married Anne Folsom and died in 1847.
