James Harvey McClary was born in 1762 in Epsom, New Hampshire. He was elected as one of the 30 Original Members of the New Hampshire Society of the Cincinnati in the State of New Hampshire on February 5, 1784. He was the first Hereditary Member of the Society and was admitted by right of his father Major Andrew McClary who was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Major Andrew McClary is listed as being in the 1st New Hampshire Regiment at Bunker Hill. Major McClary was born September 8, 1720. He married Elizabeth McGrillis. They had several children, of which James Harvey McClary was their eldest child.
James Harvey McClary married Betty Dearborn of North Hampton on May 31, 1789. They had six children.
