Located in Exeter, New Hampshire’s Revolutionary War Capital, the Museum is today in a unique position to serve residents, schoolchildren and area visitors by making our past relevant and fun so we may ignite a passion in them. The campus includes two historic properties: the Ladd-Gilman House (built 1721), which served as the New Hampshire State treasury during the Revolutionary War and where the Declaration of Independence was read on 18 July 1776; and the Folsom Tavern (built 1775), where the New Hampshire Society of the Cincinnati was formed in 1783 and where President George Washington was hosted in 1789 during his tour of New England. We want to encourage people to appreciate all those who fought for our freedom, continue to fight for it, and ultimately become interested and invested in the politics of today.
We believe we can learn from the past and apply it to the future.
