
Surgeon David Allen, 1st Regiment, New Hampshire Continental Line
David Allen was born August 13, 1755 in East Windsor, Connecticut. He was the son of David, Dr. and Miriam (Parsons) Allen. He married firstly, Martha Foster, of Stafford, Connecticut. He married secondly, on April 29, 1784, Sally Fields, of Northfield, Massachusetts, daughter of Ebenezer and Sarah (Matoon) Fields. It is not known where his medical training came from.
David Allen was commissioned as a Surgeon’s Mate in the First Regiment, New Hampshire Continental Line on May 23, 1781. His residence is given as East Windsor, Connecticut.
Surgeon’s Mate David Allen served to the close of the war and was discharged in June of 1783. After the war he returned to Connecticut and was a resident of Enfield. He applied for and received a pension in 1819. His pension is extremely thorough and even includes his original 1781 commission from the Continental Congress.
Surgeon’s Mate David Allen died February 13, 1834.
