Daniel Clapp

Captain Daniel Clapp, 1st Regiment N.H. Continental Line

Daniel Clapp was born January 14, 1746 in Hanover, New Hampshire. He was the son of Thomas Clapp.

He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st New Hampshire Regiment, Continental Line onNovember 8, 1776. During the Continental Army’s encampment at Valley Forge, he appears as a 2nd Lieutenant in Captain John House’s Company of the 1st New Hampshire. He is further listed as “Present” for January-May 1778 and “Sickat Amwell” for June 1778. During the Regiment’s time at Valley Forge, 2nd Lieutenant Clapp was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on March 5, 1778. He was further promoted to Captain on July 5, 1780. He served with the regiment until 1783.

He married firstly, Betsey Lovejoy, who died November 29, 1786. He married secondly to Mary Day, who was born February 29,1759 and died November 12, 1838. Captain Daniel Clapp died May 3, 1817.
