Who We Are
The Society of the Cincinnati, founded in 1783 by officers of the Continental Army who served together in the American Revolution, is the nation’s oldest patriotic organization. Its mission is to preserve the memory of the struggle for American independence, to promote understanding of the principles and ideals for which it was fought, and to strengthen the fellowship of its members. Today, as a nonprofit educational institution, the Society is devoted to teaching teachers, inspiring students, and engaging the public in the enduring legacy of the American Revolution.
